Nobody should be going to college immediately after high school. They should be taking a two year road trip across the country to find out who they are and what they want out of life instead. But still, every year we send millions of inexperienced 18-year-olds down a path of debt, worthless degrees, poor employment prospects, commonness and misery. The results are two full generations of adults who wasted decades of their lives chasing dreams that would never come true. And sadly there's another generation on deck about to do the same. But it doesn't have to be this way. We can all become "Reconnaissance Men" instead.
The Reconnaissance Man (or Woman) takes the time to explore this country, not just to see what this country has to offer, but to find out who they are, where they belong, and what they really want out of life. They don't rush off to college, let alone return to get their "master's degree" until they know about the world around them and precisely how they fit in it. Of course, this journey may take months (more likely years) but that's better than wasting eight years in a school you hate, and 20 years in a career you loathe, only to find out you're 50 and there's no way you can undo what's been done. Become a Reconnaissance Man instead. It's easier, much more fun, and is how life was meant to be lived.

Reconnaissance Man (Audible Audio Edition) Aaron Clarey Jim Fear Paric Books Reviews
This book is a must-read by any young person before they set up roots in any State. Aaron covers the art of being a 'Reconnaissance Man' (or woman) in great depth, and narrows down a list of possible States to settle down in based upon an individual's preferences and life goals. Want outdoor adventure so you can find that rock climbing partner of your dreams? Or maybe you hate hot climates and want a more temperate place to live, fear not, Aaron has a State for you. Very well written and accessible to teenagers and adults alike.
Title is obviously a spin on a title by Steven Covey. Like that classic, The first step in deciding where to live should be a study of which places will suit you better.
This book is great and very to the point read. It is like that scene from the matrix when you come to a realization of the world around you. In this case this wise man shares his experience of the outside world. Detailing where to go and where not to go based on his perspective. Making it seem like the world truly is one's oyster if you know where to look. (The scope of this book is for the United States and does not cover other countries.)
Must read for anyone who might be confused as to what goals to focus on and who's trying to figure out where to move to inside the US.
I WISH I would have had Aaron Clarey's books twenty years ago when I could have made much better life decisions and back when I had no one to tell me about these cold, hard facts and realities about and within our declining civilization / nation.
A must have book for anyone looking for the right path in life, I have been following Cleary for the past 2 years, he knows what he is talking about and this book is an essential resource that will only add to your life. (if you actually do something with his advice)
Aaron writes about the benefits of exploring and traveling before attending college in order to help and speed the process of deciding some of the biggest choices you'll ever make in life. These choices are embedded from 3 simple questions that he proposes.
The writing is very understandable and uncensored.
The ideas inside are practical and applicable to almost every age group, I'd sat between 15-50 years Olds.
I was very touched by his ideas and ultimately wish I read this book while in high school.
Just another fantastic read by the captain himself, Aaron Clarey. Although at first it seems an extension of "Bachelor Pad Economics," it differs as Aaron rather provides the reader the path to reconnaissance. And most importantly, where to do this in the United States. For the millennials like me who do want to strive for more but are living in states that are holding us back, Aaron gives thorough analysis of which states are best suited to visit.
