Some folks might call what Donald is trying to create with his little rural house an effort to become more self-sufficient. Donald can agree with that line of thinking, but the way he sees it, it is going to be an uphill battle and race against time to create a safe haven, "bugout" location before a NASA predicted solar storm hits.

His friends and family think his extra workload is a waste of time and energy. His neighbors think he is a bit quirky somewhat or eccentric. He is not. He is just another personally driven good ol' boy prepper on a mission. He is about to perform a labor of love and preparedness that he hopes might just save him and the little dead end community he just moved into. He believersr and heeds NASA's warnings, as well as his own premonitions of impending societal breakdown.

Like all Ron's books, he takes his adventure story and weaves in prepper tricks and introduces some new survival supplies that most folks haven't thought about, integrating them into his storyline. This book focuses on building a "bugout" location from scratch, with permaculture and disaster psychology applied to an unfolding catastrophe.

It explores how people act as an apocalyptic event unfolds. This book is dedicated to the new Real Day Prepper show and Mr. Foster has actually accomplished much of what is written in this book as a real life experience in developing a self reliant lifestyle.

The Solitary Man Volume 1 Countdown to Prepperdom (Audible Audio Edition) Ron Foster Duane Sharp PAL Productions Books

The Solitary Man is Ron Foster's latest adventure into a post-electric, post apocalyptic world. Ron's protagonist Donald is quite similar to David from the Prepper's Trilogy. He is an expert in emergency management that has spent a considerable amount of his time and resources preparing for a collapse of civilization following a solar storm or coronal mass ejection (CME). While The Solitary Man does not have as many of the laugh out loud moments that were ever-present in the Prepper's Trilogy, it does convey a new sense of urgency. Apparently, Ron Foster believes that we are getting very close to large solar event entering into 2012-2013 during what is called the solar maximum period. In fact he references the upcoming solar maximum period specifically numerous times. In the epilogue he even suggests that the next book in the series might never be released due to this impending solar event. The premise of The Solitary Man is certainly plausible but I found the plot and fictional aspects to be a little thin. It's almost as if the story was secondary to the information contained within the book. As always though, Ron Foster, for whom I have much respect, includes some very solid advice on preparing for any type of widespread disaster.

The Solitary Man Volume 1 Countdown to Prepperdom (Audible Audio Edition) Ron Foster Duane Sharp PAL Productions Books Reviews

very detailed, informative. A little wordy in some areas but overall a good book. will continue to buy books by this author
I like the characters and information found within the story. I learned some new tricks to using old objects in new ways. Would like to know the name of the next book in this series.
I read the whole thing but have to say that I did not care for it. Almost zero action of any kind and mostly it was more of a non-fiction prep book. This would have been fine if that was what you wanted to read but I thought I had bought a fiction book. Because of its non-fiction aspect I found it very difficult to get into and very dry reading.
I love all Ron's books, the characters are are detailed, and his knowledge, and tips are real world things that you can use.
A book every Prepper should read.
It makes you place yourself in the book along with all the others.
It was well written and the Author was very knowledgable.
Not your everyday prepper droning on about same old thing! Pay attention and learn whilst you enjoy (Roy Bergeron, you just plain old suck, dummy) a great storyline.
Getting through this book was worth it but was like eating a fish full of little bones. Please, just a simple proof reading to fix glaring errors would have made a huge difference! I enjoyed the thought and multi-faceted planning for disaster that was the subject of the book.
